RE: Noisy suspension

My old fifth wheel did that...greased them and it would be OK for a while then right back again. The metal straps were loose....I bought some "U" (actually square) clamps and put one on the end of each spring pack.....AAAHHHH..peace thereafter. Seems it was the spring leafs themselves shifting around....Brian

RE: Has anyone had their RV windows tinted?

I don't know why the type of rig you have would matter, any how...I have both done and had done about seven different RV's ranging from a truck camper to a ClassA. One earlier statement is true..if they are thermal pane windows don't do it. That said I've done everything from limo tint to 35% gray. I have been most happy with 35% metallic (not totally reflective) but very vision limiting from the outside. All combinations have worked well as far as protecting the contents, and helping to keep things cool. All work well to limit daytime visibility, but don't do much once the lights go on inside. You need to be prepared to lose some daytime interior light if you go very dark. My suggestion would be go to a tint shop, and get some samples (they are easy to apply) and try them on the inside of your windows. That is the only true way you will know how that particular tint will work with your existing windows. I am not sure that any particular tint (amber) will show through your existing tint. Good Luck...Brian

RE: underrated wheels

Lets see....a letter to them stating all of the dangerous possiblities involving loss of life and limb (yours, your family, and anyone else on the road when it goes). Copy the trailer manufacturer (it's their product riding on those rims), the better Better Business Bureau, the place that supplied the wheel, and Trailer Life. That should do it....I'll bet that they are now falling all over themselves to make this go away....Brian

RE: How low do we go? Advice negotiating price...

I agree with the prior poster....Montana over Heartland. Also agree on selling the pop up yourself, or at least checking NADAGuidelines.com on the actual value of it. Also can check there for the Montana. If you can look the dealer in the eye, with no trade for him to worry about, and possibly a cash deal you should be able to break $40,000 on that deal, and/or at least get him to throw in the other things you need. Rule of thumb seems to be up to 25% off "list price" ( a very ambiguous thing). In todays market who knows what is possible.....Brian

RE: Water Pump running But Pumps no Water

Yep, I vote for a loose connection on sump side, it won't necessarily show up as a water leak (sump only, no pressure), but will allow air into the line, and the pump keeps loosing its prime....Brian

RE: Leveling the front jacks (or should you)

I carry three different thicknesses of 3/4 plywood....OK?..Brian 3 different thicknesses of 3/4 plywood??:h DAMN...you're good...just as was thinking nobody ever reads anything I post or respond to....thanks for the confidence builder. That should be 3 small (6"X6") pieces of 3/4" plywood....:o :B...Brian

RE: How can I clean mold stains from white rubber trim

I'm sure many of these cleaning tips work just fine, but since you can buy new screw cover material for about $12 for 100' and with a lot less labor just replace what you've got....why not JUST DO IT!!!!....Brian

RE: Shower Walls Buckling

I would remove the wall surrounds, lay a good dose of Liquid Nails on the walls themselves, put the surrounds back in using the existing brads, temporarily shim the bottom up a little so it can't drop, use some excess lumber to make cross pressure braces while the adhesive cures. When dry remove all the temp stuff, and You are done. How's that!!!...Brian

RE: Replacing Faded Decals

If "more updated" means new and different decals he's in for a real challenge. I have NEVER seen a change of decals that did not leave a shadow of the prior decals no matter how much buffing and cleaning took place. In fact I have seen where too aggressive an approach actually broached the gel coat finish. IF it is removal (which as stated can sometimes be simple and sometimes a real PITA), application of REPLACEMENT decals (probably around $500), and a full buff and wax finish of the entire coach (which should be done prior to application to avoid feathering the new decals) it's in the right ball park. Shop it a little to find your own comfort level....Brian

RE: 13,000 pounds uphill at 65 mph - straining noise?

The "straining noise" is probably your radiator cooling fan kicking in. It's usually more like a roar but we all hear things diffeently...Brian

RE: Fridge goes off while driving

Had two that did this consistently. Both had the refer on the driver's side. I don't think it is the wind, but the vaccuum created when an opposing vehicle goes by draws the pilot off. As has been mentioned make sure the thermocouple is well centered in the flame, and clear of any debris. My fix (same on both) was to put a solid metal sheet down the side where the burner assembly is (top to bottom of the opening and about 4-6 inches into the opening. I then used 1/8 inch hardware cloth over the rest of the opening as a baffle. I'm sure that many are now shuddering about "covering the opening!", but I can tell you that it works, still have adequate ventilation, and the refers both cooled great with no more outages....Brian

RE: House battery draining down

He's right 90mins wont charge the battery deeply, just a surface charge. Are you anywhere that you can plug in and give the battery a good deep charge? In most cases the little "power pirates" previously mentioned will drain a battery pretty fast. You either need to install a battery cut off switch or remove the ground cable from the battery when its going to sit for a while. I 'm right here in town, if you want some one on one just PM me and I'll give you a phone number...Brian

RE: Leveling the front jacks (or should you)

They should be pretty close or you are twisting the frame. I use a spacer block under the short side. They do make a screw type of adjustable foot for this purpose, but I like my blocks just fine. I carry three different thicknesses of 3/4 plywood....OK?..Brian

RE: ROOF DECKING POPPING UP FROM SIDEWALL

Have seen this on a few units. Usually the deck is glued and screwed on the higher end units, just screwed on the more entry level ones. To fix, the edge cap will need to be removed, the rubber roof lifted back and the screws that "missed" replaced. Then reassembled. Should only be a 2-3 hour job for most shops, full day for do-it-yourselfers. A rolling ladder or "baker" staging makes it much easier. Your manufacturer should stand behind it as this is not wear and tear related. I would agree. Do you think Keystone will stand behind this situation since it is 2 months out of warranty now??? PCM I certainly think they will....if not, go public (Trailer Life, etc), I'll bet they step up then....Brian

RE: Axel shocks or not?

whihteeyed42.... Sorry it took me so long but I finally found my data...you, and others who want to change or add shocks may be interested:... Hydraulic# MonroeGas# Compacted Extended Operating Range 19176 555001 7.875" 11.875" 4.00" 18864 555002 8.625" 13.500" 4.875" 19188 555025 9.550" 14.550" 5.00" In most cases the shock number is on the base of the shock. The measurements shown are from the shoulder of the shock (where the shaft starts) to the other shoulder. These are all bayonet end (threaded). For the "ideal" sized shock your static length should be the compacted length of the shock plus one half the operating range. As a caveat (since things change time to time) I do suggest checking the StengelBros.com website for the latest info.....FYI..Brian

RE: Toilet emitting odor but it's holding water

Never heard of a crack in the down pipe below the valve... Yes you can over tighten, but it certainly should be quite snug (does it rock?). I'm still voting for an off center foam seal. Did you put it on the stool (not in the pipe) and lower straight down? Taking the stool out is two nuts, and one water connection....real simple. I would certainly take a look...expecially since you say the odor is at the base. You don't want your floorboards contaminated and rotting. .. Just had a last minute thought, on the Bravura you can pop out the lower front panel and take a look (it has one ear tab either side that must be pushed in toward the center in order to remove).FYI....Brian

RE: Towing wiring harness problem

I will re-check the ground again. It is definitely a bare metal ground and did ohm out well with my Fluke, but it won't take but a few minutes to run a second ground to the frame. Thanks for the input. I also think ground...but I had a rarity one time that was similar. Make sure the bulb has not been turned so far that it has gone past the socket cutout notch and is contacting the other point. It can cause exactly what you are saying.....Brian
